Dale’s life experience melds woodworking, mathematics and a love of teaching.
As a third-generation woodworker, it was inevitable that Dale and his brothers would work side by side with their father from an early age as he passed down stories and skills of the trade from their grandfather. Now, his talents and creations have earned him special reconigition in the Fearless Furniture Exhibition.
Fearless Furniture Exhibition: 21 artists selected Indiana State Museum to showcase “daring” furniture designs in a show this fall includes Dale Barnard, world renown artist; a Hoosier Native of three generations of woodworkers. Here is his latest exhibit piece.
INDIANAPOLIS—The Indiana State Museum is proud to announce the 21 artists who have beenselected by a juror to showcase their extraordinary designs this fall in Fearless Furniture, a 30-piece invitational and juried show at the museum.
Wendy Maruyama, the show’s juror, is an internationally-renowned artist whose works are found in the collections of public institutions worldwide.
“I was impressed by the quality and diversity of the works submitted, and attributed part of this to Indiana’s strong furniture design programs which encourage exploration and experimentation. I also sensed the state’s well-established traditionsof woodworking,” stated Maruyama, who currently serves as Professor Emeritus of Woodworking and Design at San Diego State University.
All artists were either born in Indiana, trained at one of Indiana’s well-known furniture design programs, or have made Indiana their place of residence.
