About this class
Arts and Crafts Movement, (1880 – 1916) was a philosophical movement turning away from the Industrial Age. It promoted simplicity of design focusing on form and function with excellent craftsmanship as a rebellion against the mass production felt to have removed creativity from the manufacturing process. Custom shops or small factories with each craftsman being top quality in skills began making items for every aspect of life. The movement touched American life from wallpaper design to architecture and everything in between. Design details are central to the movement. This joinery class, making quadrilinear legs with through tenons is an element essential to Arts & Crafts joinery. In Dale’s class instead of practicing on scrap wood and tossing it later, you will practice by making a small footstool. You can give it away or you might want to keep it because it has a great “wow” factor. If you love the Arts & Crafts design, also called Mission, Craftsman, Stickley, etc. This is the joinery they used to produce such fabulous furniture.
